EU VAT Number Validator

Validate any EU VAT number against VIES — the European Commission's live registry: validity, registered trader name and address by member state. The check every B2B invoice flow needs before applying the reverse charge.

About this tool

Live EU VAT validation via VIES, run by the European Commission: valid/invalid verdict, the registered trader name and address where the member state publishes them, and the consultation date that serves as evidence for reverse-charging. Supports all 27 member states plus XI (Northern Ireland).

Frequently asked questions

Why does the response say 'withheld'?

Some member states (e.g. Austria) do not publish trader names/addresses through VIES for privacy — the validity answer is still authoritative.

Can I use this for tax compliance?

VIES is the Commission's own evidence source for intra-EU B2B supplies. Keep the returned consultation date with your invoice records, per EU invoicing rules.
